Yeah that’s right, I’m talking the virtual/cartoon band Gorillaz. On March 1st 2010, the video for their latest single Stylo, was posted to the band’s youtube channel.  Like most Gorillaz videos, this one’s pretty sick.  What sucks is it’s not as artistic as previous videos, such as Feel Good IncStylo features a car chase, an android version of Noodle (omg wtf I want the real Noodle, she is mah favorite~), no Russel, and Bruce Willis.  Yeah, you read that right, Bruce “yippie kai yay” Willis.

If you’re a big Gorillaz fan, they’re streaming the entire album for free on NPR for your listening pleasure, they have been doing so since midnight today too.  Take a listen here, you won’t regret it.  Don’t forget to pick up the new album, Plastic Beach in stores on March 9th (or if you are a bigger weeaboo than me, in Japan on the 3rd~)!  I’m stoked for it.

Holy awesomeAdult Swim has finally made something worthwhile.  Following a sticky on 4chan’s video game board last night, I came across the greatest game in the history of mankind.  This is a science blog — that greatest game claim is a scientific fact.  The picture says it all.  Make your wishes come true, with rainbows, unicorns, and dolphins.

This is not just a game, it’s a way of life. Click here to play Robot Unicorn Attack, and make your dreams come true~~~

Thanks to the miracles of the internet, I’ve come across a sweet solar system simulator tool from the University of Colorado.  The applet is part of their PhET program, a portion of their website dedicated to simulations that “improve the way physics, chemistry, biology, earth science and math are taught and learned.”  Pretty neat actually (not NEET you NHK fanboys), a lot of cool simulations besides the solar system one.  Never found a better way of visualizing the space version of “the sling shot.”

Anyways, check it out, the link to the solar system simulator is here.  You can see a full list of available simulations here.

Mediocrity embodied in jpeg formatKwon Boa is a manufactured pop star with a mediocre voice.  The Korean does not have a unique voice, nor does she have a great producer to build up stompin’ beats to mask such vocal deficiencies.  Nevertheless, BoA released her first Japanese album in two years on February 10, 2010.  The vast majority entirety of her last few albums have been horrendous, best left forgotten in your collection of foreign music that you keep to show people on the internet how cultured you are. Reasons to avoid this new BoA album, bar a few songs, after the jump.

It’s quite easy to develop a lack of connection between mathematics and application, which inspired this article. That said, mechanical engineering is not my profession, so I would like to detail another brief article about how math is actually used.  In this article I’ll take you through designing a simple differentiator circuit, a circuit that performs the derivative on an input signal.  In practice, you might need this as part of a controller for a temperature system, determining how “fast” the temperature is changing.  More after the jump
